My Brother’s Keeper, Inc. (MBK) is a private, nonprofit, 501(c) (3) organization located in the Jackson, MS metropolitan area designed to enhance the health and well being of minority populations through leadership in public and community health practices, collaboration and partnerships. MBK was first established as a nascent entity in 1998 dedicated to the prevention, care and treatment of persons infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Since this time, the agency’s vision has expanded to include a wealth of health issues, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and cancer.MBK has over ten years of experience in designing and delivering an innovative range of educational and training programs in public health, social policy, action research, information technology, advocacy, coalition development and capacity building. MBK has extensive experience in coordinating, facilitating, and implementing community needs and health impact assessments, developing coalitions and partnerships, and evaluating program impacts and successes.Since its inception, MBK has shown its commitment to racial and ethnic minority populations as evident through its service to over 15,000 constituents, nationwide, who represent CBOs, FBOs, institutions of higher learning, and community lay persons. Over the past 10 years, MBK has developed and implemented 13 projects dedicated to eliminating health disparities throughout the US. As a result, over 5000 individuals, nationwide, have been educated in the areas of HIV/AIDS, STDs, cardiovascular disease, cancer, obesity, and lead poisoning.
