Background: My Brother’s Keeper, Inc (on behalf of the State of Mississippi) was funded as one of 61 Community Transformation Grant awardees from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This grant is a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS’s) Community Transformation Grants to support public health efforts to reduce chronic diseases, promote healthier lifestyles, reduce health disparities, and control health care spending. Nationwide, other communities are also working together to decrease health disparities and ignite a culture of health and comprehensive wellness. We do hope that you will join us in taking up this charge to understand broad evidence and practice based-policy along with environmental, programmatic and infrastructure systems change strategies and use those strategies to enhance healthy living in Mississippi.

The Project CHANGE Capacity Building Training Conference is designed to strengthen communities to improve health outcomes throughout the State of Mississippi by building the capacity of community members, key stakeholders, and public health agencies in five specific health strategies. These areas include: tobacco-free living; active living and healthy eating; high impact evidence-based clinical and other preventive services; social and emotional wellness; and, healthy and safe physical environments. By promoting healthy lifestyles, especially among population groups experiencing the greatest burden of chronic disease, these grants will help improve health, reduce health disparities, and control health care spending in the State of Mississippi.

The conference will consist of a variety of all-day trainings focused on environmental and policy scans, conducting needs assessments, story-telling. Workshops will include presentations from national and regional experts around topic areas in the five specific health strategies.
